The change in the rates of the regulated market, called PVPC (Voluntary Price for Small Consumers), has been one of the most relevant economic news of this 2021. Mainly, it affects the pockets of many households and companies, who have realized of the need to pay less on your electricity bill.

How to save on the electricity bill

In the following article, we provide four ideas to save. We can classify them into two large groups: those related to changing habits and those related to rate changes.

Change your habits

Do you think you can do more to save energy and therefore reduce the cost of your electricity bill? So, we give you two ideas that will surely reduce the amount you pay each month, without having to do anything about your rate:

Consume less

First of all, check all the electrical appliances you have at home, check their energy label and replace the ones with the highest consumption with more efficient ones. This is a list of the appliances that generally consume the most electricity:

  • Fridge.
  • Washing machine.
  • TV.
  • Oven.
  • Dishwasher.

In addition, you can prepare yourself to use these devices for less time. For example, you can do without the ‘stand by’ mode or implement home automation at home to perform centralized shutdowns, among other measures. It is true that this logically requires an investment. However, it will be amortized over time, so it is convenient to do accounts exhaustively.

Consume better

Regardless of the contract you have (free or regulated), it is likely that you have time discrimination. That is, at certain times, your electricity consumption will be cheaper. Usually this is in the early morning hours and on weekends.

Therefore, you can organize your routine to perform the tasks that require a higher consumption of electricity during those hours. A good alternative is to use the oven, dishwasher or washing machine during the weekend or in periods where consumption costs are lower.

Change your rate

If you have already applied all the measures to try to reduce the cost of the electricity bill and it is still not enough, it may be time to review your rate. It may happen that you have one that does not fit your real needs. This change can be made in two ways: market or marketer.

Change of market

There are two types of market: regulated and free. The regulated is one whose price is set according to the criteria of the Ministry of Industry , but is auctioned every day, so it is more sensitive to external fluctuations. The free one, on the other hand, is the one that the consumer contracts with the marketer he wants, according to the offers or conditions that are most attractive to him. In this case, the guarantee is provided to always pay as stipulated in the contract.

Change of vendor

If your contract is a free market contract, you can take a look at the current conditions. There are numerous electricity rates that adjust to different profiles: with different time slots based on certain habits, with a fixed monthly fee to always pay the same, those adapted to self-consumption, etc.

If you follow these steps, you can optimize your consumption and reduce the amount of the electricity bill. Something, without a doubt, more than necessary with the increase that has occurred in the last year.
